Technical Support
Before You Ask
- The problem might already be solved. Please update smartChord in the Google Play Store to the latest version and try again.
- For unclear or technical problems: Restart your device. A restart refreshes the system, clears temporary glitches, and often resolves many common issues.
- Reinstalling the app usually does not solve problems. In rare cases it might help, but always create a backup first and store it in a safe place.
- Use the search box to look through the documentation, FAQ, tutorials, and release notes.
How to Request Help
- Write an email to info@smartChord.de.
- Please describe your problem in as much detail as possible. Use German or English if possible. If it’s difficult to explain, a screencast is ideal. Screenshots are also very helpful. You can use the menu item Error message, which automatically creates a screenshot.
- During business hours we will typically respond within 24 hours, but please allow for up to 2 days for us to get back to you. Thank you for your patience.
- If you haven’t received an email from us within a day, check your spam folder and make sure the @smartChord.de domain isn’t blocked.
How to create a screencast
Creating a screencast (screen recording) on Android has become much easier in recent years, as the feature is now built directly into the operating system for most devices running Android 11 or newer.
Here is the step-by-step guide to getting it done.
1. Using the Built-in Screen Recorder
This is the most common method for modern Samsung, Pixel, and OnePlus devices.
- Open Quick Settings: Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to reveal the full Quick Settings grid.
- Find “Screen Record”: Look for a tile labeled Screen Record or a camcorder icon.
- Note: If you don’t see it, tap the Edit (pencil) icon and drag the Screen Record tile into your active settings.
- Configure your settings: Once you tap the icon, a pop-up will usually ask:
- Audio: Do you want to record “Device audio” (internal sounds), “Microphone,” or both?
- Show Touches: Do you want a small white dot to appear wherever you tap the screen?
- Start Recording: Tap Start. You will usually see a countdown (3, 2, 1) in the status bar before it begins.
- Stop Recording: Swipe down the notification shade and tap the red “Stop” button.
2. Using Third-Party Apps (For older versions)
If you are on an older version of Android (Android 10 or below), or if you need advanced features like high-bitrate control or internal video editing, these apps are the gold standard:
- AZ Screen Recorder: Highly reliable, no root required, and supports live streaming to platforms like YouTube.
- XRecorder (InShot): Offers a floating control ball for quick access and built-in basic video editing.
3. Pro Tips for a Better Screencast
To make your recording look professional, keep these things in mind:
- Enable “Do Not Disturb”: This prevents private notifications or “low battery” warnings from popping up mid-recording.
- Landscape vs. Portrait: Start the recording in the orientation you plan to stay in. Flipping the phone mid-record can cause black bars or glitchy playback on some video players.
- Check Storage: Screen recordings create large files. Ensure you have a few hundred MBs free before starting a long session.
Finding Your Video
Once finished, your video is automatically saved to your phone’s gallery. You can usually find it in a folder named “Screenrecordings” or “Movies” within Google Photos or your default Gallery app.
Send error report

When something in smartChord does not work as expected, the fastest way to get it fixed is to send us the app’s log and error files. smartChord collects these files automatically in the background. The Send error report function bundles them into a single archive and prepares an e-mail to our support team – so you don’t have to search for any files yourself. If you have any trouble and smartChords detect no error, you can always use the Report error function to send us an error report. It creates a screenshot automatically.
When to use it
Use Send error report whenever you ran into a crash, a freeze or wrong behavior, or when our support team asked you to send your log files. The report helps us understand what exactly happened on your device, which is often the only way to reproduce and fix a problem.
Where to find it
Open the home screen and tap the menu. There you will find the entry Send error report.
The entry only appears when there is a recent error or log file to send. If everything has been running smoothly, the entry stays hidden – that is normal and nothing to worry about.
What is sent
Tapping Send error report does three things:
- It collects the current log and error files from smartChord’s internal error folder.
- It packs them into a single ZIP file (
smartChord_error_log.zip). - It opens your e-mail app with the archive attached, addressed to
bug@smartChord.de, together with a short text that explains what is being sent and why.
These files contain technical information – for example your device model, the Android and smartChord version, and what the app was doing when the problem occurred. They do not contain personal data such as your songs, contacts or account details.
How to send it
- On the home screen, open the menu and tap Send error report.
- Your e-mail app opens with the report attached and the recipient already filled in.
- Please add a short description of what you did and what went wrong – even one or two sentences help us enormously.
- Send the e-mail.
Privacy
The error report is only created and sent when you trigger it, and it is sent through your own e-mail app, so you can always review the message and attachment before sending. The files are used exclusively to analyze and fix the reported problem.
Advanced Troubleshooting
Some issues are difficult to diagnose and require additional information. For such cases, we have prepared a separate guide that explains how you can collect and send us the information needed to identify and resolve the problem.
