How to Access smartChord Error Reports
If an error occurs, smartChord logs it to a file. The log file is stored in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/de.smartchord.droid/files/error.
smartChord uses this specific directory within Android’s protected system path (/Android/data/...) because Android requires apps to store their app-specific data and log files in a dedicated, private location. This isolation helps maintain system security, protects user data from unauthorized access by other apps, and ensures compliance with Android’s storage model.
Accessing the Android/data folder has become quite tricky on modern Android versions (Android 11 and newer) due to Google’s strict privacy restrictions (Scoped Storage). By default, standard file managers will show this folder as completely empty.
Here is how you can access that exact path to find your error files.
Method 1: The Easiest Way (Using a Third-Party File Manager)
Since the built-in files app blocks access, the most reliable workaround is using a free, advanced file manager from the Google Play Store.
- Download an app: Install FV File Manager or Shizuku + MiXplorer (or ZArchiver) from the Play Store.
- Navigate to the path: Open the app and grant it storage permissions. Then browse to:
Main Storage(orInternal Storage) ➔Android➔data - Grant Special Access: When you click
data, the app will pop up a system window saying it needs permission. Click “Use this folder” (and then “Allow”) at the bottom of the screen. - Find the folder: You can now see the contents! Scroll down to find
de.smartchord.droid, then click throughfiles➔error.
Method 2: Connect to a PC or Mac (No Apps Required)
Computer operating systems bypass Android’s on-device Scoped Storage restrictions.
- Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.
- On your phone, swipe down the notification panel, tap the USB charging notification, and change it to “File Transfer” (or “MTP”).
- On your computer, open This PC (Windows) or Finder/Android File Transfer (Mac).
- Open your phone’s internal storage and follow the exact folder structure:
Internal shared storage➔Android➔data➔de.smartchord.droid➔files➔error
Method 3: The Built-in Android Workaround (No PC, No Downloads)
If you don’t want to install anything, you can force Android’s hidden “Files” system app into a split-screen view to copy the data.
- Go to your phone’s Settings ➔ Apps ➔ All Apps.
- Look for the system app named Files (with a blue folder icon) and open its info page. (Do not use “Files by Google” with the colorful logo).
- Scroll to the bottom and tap “App details”. This forces the hidden system file manager to open.
- From here, you can usually view the
Android/datafolder.Note: You cannot modify files here, but you can copy theerrorfolder and paste it into a public directory likeDownloadsto read it.
