Organize songs
Books and Set lists are two typical ways to organize songs. However, they serve different purposes. With smartChord, both options are available to you. But as you will see, there are many more ways to organize the songs
Key Differences in Bullet Points:
Feature | Books | Set Lists |
---|---|---|
Purpose | Song collection | Ordered song list for performance or rehearsal |
Order | No fixed order | Fixed, important order |
Usage | Organization, categorization | Performances, practices, services, etc. |
Song Linking | Each song can be in multiple books | One song can be in multiple Set lists. Pulls songs from the Songbook (references) and references images and PDF files |
Set list
The Set list is a meaningful extension of the songbook and lets you organize your songs and lyrics for performance or practice. There you can combine the songs of the songbook with images and PDF files with songs.
There is a separate page for the ‘Set list link’. A sophisticated functionality that connects different devices and keeps the set list synchronous on all devices. You can use it with your bandmates during rehearsals and live performances.

Books
To clarify upfront, the Songbook doesn’t have a dedicated feature for managing books. However, there is a much more powerful tool for replicating the structure of books. This goes beyond the ability to categorize songs. You can assign your songs to your desired books in the table of contents and filter by book if necessary.
- Create a new category called ‘Book’ and add the names of the books to it. For example:
- Alternative Rock
- Beatles Songbook
- Blues Legends
- Christmas Carols
- Classic Rock
- Fingerpicking
- Folk Tunes
- Indie
- Jazz Collection
- Love Songs
- Piano Favorites
- Pop Music
- Change to multi select and use the search or the filter to select the items for your book
- Assign the category ‘Books’ to the selected songs. For example ‘Beatles Songbook’
- After assigning the category, you can use the filter in the table of contents to display only the songs that have ‘Beatles Songbook’ listed in the ‘Books’ category
