Synchronize songs

Table of Contents

You can synchronize your songs and set lists with your friends, bandmates or students using the cloud. After you have initialized this file synchronization, your songs or set lists are available in the cloud. The songs or set lists are stored in a directory of your choice as plain text files (UTF-8 encoded). Your bandmates or friends can use the file synchronization to get access to those files and import them to their songbook or set lists.

Tips

👉 Use a song on different devices

When using multiple devices, songs may be displayed on different screen sizes. To ensure consistent readability, smartChord offers scale factors that automatically adjust the text size, so manual zooming is not required on each device. This makes it easy to seamlessly switch between devices like smartphones and tablets, or to collaborate with others during rehearsals and live performances.

Edit the files comfortably with your PC

You can also use it to edit the files comfortably with your PC and start the synchronization then.

To edit text files on e.g. Google Drive on a PC, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your browser and go to Google Drive: https://drive.google.com
  2. Sign in with your Google account.
  3. Switch into the synchronization folder
  4. Locate your song file and choose Open with → Google Docs to edit it online

Alternatively, you can:

  • Download the file, edit it with a local program (like Notepad), and upload it again.
  • Or install Google Drive for Desktop to edit files directly from your PC like a normal folder.

That’s it—no special software required beyond your browser.
